Tell us their story:  The magnitude of someone's heart makes them a Champion. Kursten Berry has a demonstrated genuine heart and love to the Houston community, which is why I am nominating her as a Hometown Champion. Heading the Community Outreach committee of the Houston Area Urban League Young Professionals (HAULYP), Kursten works monthly to organize opportunities for young professionals to give back. From the youth to the elderly, the organization has touched many facets of the Houston community.

Through the organization's signature Young Professionals University over 200 youth were inspired, motivated, and prepped for college. Several times throughout the year, the organization worked to help the less fortunate by volunteering with the Houston Food Bank, Rebuilding Together Houston, and Bread of Life. Kursten took the lead in organizing Warm for the Holidays, a blanket drive to help keep the Homeless warm during this chilly season.

Kursten also gives back as a lead in the youth ministry at Fountain of Praise by coordinating the annual college tour, and daily to her students at Lee High School. Always with a smile, her inspiring spirit and hard work in the community is motivation to her peers. She is the genuine Hometown Champion.
